What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

 

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a type of ‘talking therapy’ that has a solution-oriented approach to the treatment of psychological issues. It combines the use of hypnosis with some modern psychotherapeutic principles to create positive life changes.

In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we focus on what the client wants to achieve (the solution) rather than what prompted them to seek help (the problem).

Understanding Your Needs

For most people hypnotherapy will be something new and unknown; they will want to know a bit more about it before deciding whether to try it, so I offer the first meeting free of charge, and I can explain how I work.

In this initial 60 minute session, we will focus on your concerns and all relevant historical information in order to create a report on your current well-being. We’ll discuss the neuroscience behind how the brain works and how we can get into these difficult to handle situations.

Working Together

If you’re considering Hypnotherapy, it’s important that you understand that it’s a collaborative process. The relationship we will have will be one where we work together to identify your specific needs and put in motion the actions to make positive life changes.

Hypnotherapy is not something that is ‘done’ to you to quickly fix your problems – change happens because you want it to happen. You should be open to making the change happen in your life.

Results Tracking

From the very beginning, we will be tracking your results so that you can see the benefits that Hypnotherapy is bringing to your life.

I monitor each and every session in order to show you, the client, your improvement. From there I will give you a free recording that you can use at home so you can continue your progress away from the consulting room.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis or ‘trance’ is a very natural, relaxing state, encouraged by using guided relaxation, where the mind can relax and focus on thoughts and suggestions that might be useful.

Trance is a very natural and safe state! When we are in a trance state, we are still in full control. We are able to process and decide whether information or suggestions are useful to us or not; we will not accept or do anything against our will. It’s often described as a ‘dream-like’ state, where you are aware of what’s going on while being able to enjoy the freedom of letting your mind wander off.

Hypnosis reduces anxiety through relaxation and visualisation, allowing you to focus on the positive aspects of life and encourages a shift into a more positive perspective.

During The Session

Psychotherapy

The first part of the session is the Psychotherapy part – this involves us asking you what has been different in your life? What has been better, even in very small ways? Doing this increases creativity and positive, happy memories are accessed spontaneously and far more often. All of my sessions are playful, light, and full of laughter. The Therapy is non-judgemental, encourages mindfulness, and is respectful of your own wisdom. NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques will be used in some circumstances particularly phobic or compulsive responses.

Hypnosis (trance)

The second half of the session is hypnosis. Entering hypnosis is easy! On the therapist’s couch, you are given pillows and a blanket to keep you comfortable and relaxed. As you go into trance, you will be in a relaxed, pleasant but concentrated state where you have a heightened awareness. During this state, the subconscious mind is more susceptible to positive suggestions and therapeutic change. Hypnosis uses the natural ability of the resting mind to create a lasting and hugely effective, positive outcome. If your session is online, you can use a comfortable spot in your home (or wherever you are) for the trance portion of our session.

How Does It Work?

Initial Consultation

The first step is booking a free initial consultation. Choose a date & time that suits you and book your session for either face-to-face or online (Zoom). There is no hypnosis in this initial session.

Follow Up Sessions

During your initial session, I will advise how many follow-up sessions we should have to give you the best results possible. These sessions will consist of half talk-therapy and half hypnosis and can take place face to face or online (Zoom).

That’s it! After your sessions are complete, you should expect to feel less anxious, happier, and more in control of your life. If needed, we can continue with occasional sessions moving forward.
